A Brief History Lewis County Adventist School opened its doors in 1922, and was located in downtown Centralia, Washington. In 1952, the area Seventh-day Adventist churches came together to build LCAS at its current location on Scheuber Road. Students and faculty moved into the new school in 1953, and grades 9 and 10 were added to the curriculum. The constituency of the school is currently made up of the Centralia, Chehalis , and Winlock Seventh-day Adventist Churches. Formerly Oakville (dissolved), Onlalaska, and Morton ('74/'75) SDA Churches were part of the contituency. LCAS prides itself in a quality education program for students in Kindergarten through the 10th grade. Our multi-grade classroom size is small providing a great teacher/student ratio. We are a state accredited school with an emphasis on Christian education and values. We have outstanding views of Mt. St. Helens (although somewhat shorter since May 1980 when she blew her top), Mt. Adams, and Mt. Rainier. A grass playfield with an asphalt track, "big" toys and a covered play area are part outdoor sports facilities. Our gym has a hardwood floor and well equipped kitchen. It makes a great meeting place for sports, games, recess, and programs. We have 6 classrooms plus a library and office. The walkways between classrooms are enclosed so no one must go out in the rain or cold. Our Mission Statement The mission of Lewis County Adventist School is to show the love of God in action in our daily lives, to accept and support each other unconditionally, to put our best effort into everything we do, and to be a positive influence in our community. The Mission of Seventh-day Adventist Education The Seventh-day Adventist Church in North America operates a system of elementary and secondary education that began in 1872. the church's unique philosophy of Christian education is based on the Scriptures and the writings of Ellen G. White. All children and youth have been entrusted by the church to the education system for spiritual nurture and educational excellence. The primary aim of Seventh-day Adventist education is to provide opportunity for students to accept Christ as their Savior, to allow the Holy Spirit to transform their lives, and to fulfill the commission of preaching the gospel to all the world. The education program is predicated on the belief that each student is unique and of inestimable value, and on the importance of the development of the whole person. Students are educated to accept service as a way of life, to be sensitive to the needs of people in the home and society, and to become active members in the church. |
